INTERGENERATIONAL DIALOGUE: CONCEPT GROUP

Format: (1) Online monthly meeting on specific topic, with topic list generated by Young BPW members worldwide; (2) Education and greater understanding of participants in generational differences, current business models, seismic shifts in human interaction as moderated by technology, and the need to transform member organisations accordingly; (3) online group participants to act as “ambassadors” in sharing the concept with their own clubs and federations; (4) development of resolution(s) to be presented at 2020 BPW International Congress by sponsoring/supporting federations; (5) presentation of concept group process at 2020 BPW International Congress.

Sample Topics [Topics generated by Young BPW — samples ONLY]: new business models, use of technology in the workforce, what young members need from a business organization, new models of feminism [intersectional], youth leadership, use of technology for BPW functions, networking and BPW, meeting structure, hierarchical vs egalitarian / collaborative organisational models, meaningful community projects, advocacy and youth involvement, the function of / need for the “Young BPW” distinction, fears and concerns of the young adult generation – lack of employment / security / climate change / aging populations, ways for young members to have more ‘voice’ in BPW, key issues of young working women

Action Plan: (1) set-up of project including Executive approval, with Summer 2019 launch; (2) identification of participating project members, by open invitation to all Young BPW members globally and a 2-stage invitation process for older members (1st: sympathetic; 2nd: open); (3) monthly online meetings (utilising ZOOM platform) for topical discussion, led by Young BPW participants; (4) continue project through August 2020 and present at Congress; (5) generate and present resolutions at Congress accordingly; (6) report on project to 2020-2023 Executive; (7) consider project continuation thereafter.

Outcomes: (1) raising awareness within BPW global membership regarding intergenerational issues; (2) participants gain transferable skills in regard to intergenerational concepts and communication, for use in their workplace and community; (3) “ripple effect” in the sharing of these skills and knowledge with other community members; (4) resolution(s) in Congress 2020 for greater youth involvement and leadership; (5) establishment of a permanent BPW International taskforce in this name; (6) contribution to a 21st century model of BPW.
